Privacy policy
I’m a detailer, not a data company. I collect what I need to quote your job and turn up at the right address, and nothing else. This page says exactly what that means.

Who this is
This website and this business are run by Record Mobile Detailing, a mobile detailing business owned and operated by Carter Record, based in Carson City, Michigan and serving mid-Michigan.
This policy covers this website, the contact form on it, and the information I collect when you get in touch or book a job. It sits alongside the terms and conditions.
What you give me
Everything in this section is information you choose to hand over.
Through the contact form
The form asks for your name, phone number, email address, the town the vehicle will be in, which service you’re after, and a description of the vehicle. Name, phone and the description are required; the rest is optional. Whatever you type is what I receive — the form collects nothing beyond the boxes you can see.
When you book
Booking runs through Square. You’ll give Square your name, contact details, the address where the vehicle will be, the service and time you’ve chosen, and payment details if you’re paying or leaving a deposit online. Square holds that and shares the booking details with me so I know where to be and what to bring. Square’s own privacy notice governs what they do with it.
When you call, text or email
Your number, your email address, and whatever you tell me about the vehicle and the job.
During the job
Notes about the vehicle and what it needed, and before-and-after photographs — see clause 08.
What gets collected automatically
Two things happen in the background on any website, including this one.
Server logs. This site is hosted by Vercel. Like any web host, their servers keep standard request logs — IP address, browser and device type, the pages requested, the time, and the page you came from. These exist so the site can be served and problems diagnosed. I don’t use them to build a profile of you, and in practice I don’t look at them.
Fonts. The typefaces are served by Google Fonts, so your browser makes a request to Google to load them. Google receives that request, which includes your IP address, as part of delivering the fonts.
Analytics. This site uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits — how many people come, which pages they read, roughly which town they’re in, and whether they arrived from Google, Facebook or a direct link. It tells me whether the website is doing its job. To do that it sets a cookie in your browser and sends Google your IP address, which Google uses to estimate your general location and then discards.
It is deliberately plain: no advertising features, no remarketing, no cross-site tracking, and nothing that identifies you personally. I see counts and patterns, not people. I can’t tell that a particular visitor was you, and the analytics data is never joined up with your name, phone number or booking.
If you’d rather not be counted, Google publishes a browser add-on that switches it off everywhere: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. Blocking cookies for this site, or using your browser’s private mode, also works. Nothing on this site stops working if you do — the booking, the form and the phone number all behave exactly the same.
What I don’t collect
Visit counting aside (clause 03), the list of things this site doesn’t do is a good deal longer than the list of things it does:
- No advertising trackers. No Meta Pixel, no Google Ads tag, no remarketing, and nothing that follows you around other websites.
- No session recording. No heatmaps, no screen recordings, nobody watching your cursor move.
- No profile of you. Analytics is counted in aggregate. Nothing here builds a record of you as a person, and analytics data is never joined to your name, phone number or booking.
- No accounts on this site, so no usernames and no passwords.
- Nothing sold. Your information isn’t sold, rented, traded, or handed to anyone for their marketing. Ever.
Cookies. The only cookie this site sets is the Google Analytics one described in clause 03. There are no advertising cookies and no preference cookies. You won’t see a cookie banner, because this site serves customers in Michigan and US law doesn’t require consent before setting an analytics cookie. If that changes, or if I ever start advertising to people in the UK or EU, this page and the site change with it.
“Do Not Track”. Browsers send this signal inconsistently and Google Analytics doesn’t act on it, so I’m not going to claim it’s honoured here — that would be a nice-sounding promise I can’t keep. What does work is the opt-out add-on linked in clause 03, or simply blocking cookies for this site.
What I use it for
Only these:
- Replying to you and answering your question.
- Quoting the job accurately.
- Booking the appointment, confirming it, and reminding you before the day.
- Getting to the right address with the right equipment.
- Taking payment and issuing your invoice or receipt.
- Keeping a record of work done on the vehicle, in case you come back or a question comes up about a job.
- Meeting tax and record-keeping obligations.
I don’t add you to a mailing list because you asked for a quote. If I ever start sending promotional messages, they’ll only go to people who asked for them.
Who else handles it
Running a small business means using a few services. Each one below sees a specific slice of information because it needs it to do its job, and each has its own privacy terms.
- Square — booking, scheduling, reminders, invoicing and card processing. Sees your booking and payment details.
- Web3Forms — delivers contact form submissions. The form contents pass through them and arrive as an email.
- Google — three separate things. Gmail carries my business email, so anything you email me is stored in that inbox. Google Fonts serves the typefaces. Google Analytics counts visits and sets the one cookie this site uses. All three are covered in clause 03.
- Vercel — hosts this website and keeps the server logs described above.
- My mobile carrier — carries calls and texts, as it would for any phone call.
Beyond that, I’d only pass your information on if the law required it, or if it were genuinely necessary to establish or defend a legal claim. If the business were ever sold or transferred, customer records could transfer with it — and this policy would still apply to them.
Card and payment details
This website never sees your card. There is no payment form on it and no card data passes through it.
All card payments are processed by Square. Your card details go directly to Square, who handle the processing and the security around it. I don’t see your full card number, I can’t store it, and it isn’t kept anywhere in this business. What I see is what any merchant sees afterwards: that a payment went through, for how much, and the last few digits on the receipt.
Photographs of your vehicle
I take before-and-after photos of vehicles I work on. They serve two purposes: a record of the condition I found and the condition I left, and showing the work on this website, on Google, and on Facebook and Instagram.
You can say no. Tell me when you book or when I arrive, and your vehicle won’t be used in anything public. It changes nothing about the job or the price. If you only want the number plate hidden, I’ll blur it.
I don’t photograph the inside of your home, and I never publish addresses or anything that shows where a vehicle was worked on. If something’s already been posted and you want it gone, message me and it comes down.
Calls, texts and email
Giving me your phone number means I can call or text you about your enquiry, your quote and your booking — confirmations, reminders, and letting you know if I’m running late. Square also sends automated booking confirmations and reminders to the number you give it.
Promotional messages only go to people who’ve asked for them. If you ever get one you didn’t want, reply STOP and it stops immediately. Standard message and data rates from your carrier apply.
How long I keep it
Enquiries that don’t turn into work sit in my inbox and get cleared out periodically. Records of jobs I’ve done are kept as long as I need them for servicing the vehicle again, for accounts, and for tax — and no longer than the law requires me to.
Booking and payment records are held by Square under their own retention rules.
If you’d like your details removed sooner, just ask — see the next clause.
Keeping it safe
I take sensible steps to protect what I hold: the services I use are reputable ones with their own security in place, accounts are password-protected, and the site is served over an encrypted connection.
I’m not going to tell you your information is completely safe, because nobody can honestly say that about anything sent over the internet. What I can tell you is that I collect as little as possible, which is the only genuine protection there is.
What you can ask for
Email or call and I’ll sort it out — no forms, no process:
- A copy of what I hold about you.
- A correction if something’s wrong.
- Deletion of your details, except anything I’m legally required to keep for tax and accounting.
- Photos taken down, or your vehicle excluded from any future ones.
- No more messages — call, text or email, your choice which.
I’ll deal with any of these within 30 days, usually a lot sooner. I may need to check you are who you say you are first, which for a business this size normally means recognising your phone number.
Children
This is a service for vehicle owners and it isn’t aimed at children. I don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think a child has sent me something, tell me and I’ll delete it.
Links to other sites
This site links out to Square, Google, Facebook and Instagram. Once you’re on one of those, you’re under their privacy policy, not this one. I don’t control what they collect or what they do with it.
Changes to this policy
If how I handle information changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top gets updated. Anything significant — adding analytics, changing which services I use — will be reflected here rather than quietly done.
